Introduction to Air Warfare Destroyer Program - Mr Kristoffer Grande

Kristoffer Grande is the Operations Manager for Shipbuilding at the Forgacs Shipyard, Fitzroy Street, Newcastle. His current responsibility is to set up and run the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) block construction. Forgacs Group, one of the Australia's leading ship repair, ship construction, and engineering companies was awarded construction of Air Warfare Destroyer block packages in 2008.

Kristoffer has a bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture from Agder University in Norway and a Masters by Research (Science) degree from Curtin University of Technology. 13 years of varied international experience as a naval architect in the Norwegian Navy, oil & gas industry, Yacht Design and of course his successful career at Forgacs. Kirstoffer’s achievement also includes fulfilling the ambition to be a yacht designer at the highest competitive level (America's Cup) as well as leading the tender team for the Customs Patrol Boats.

Kristoffer will be talking about the Air Warfare Destroyer program and the role of Forgacs Group in the Selected Engineering activities at Forgacs Air Warfare Destroyer Construction Facility. He will briefly talk about the following:

- Planning Phase (Capacity planning, yard usage etc.)
- Block Lifting and Handling (First principle calculations, FEA etc.)
- Production Engineering (Drafting of HVAC, jig design, nesting of penetrations)
- Productivity Improvements (Automated welding systems, Defence Materials Technology Centre  
   research involvement) Future Projects focus (Frigates, Submarines, SEA 1180, Landing Crafts +
  describe engineering input to tender process)
